PROGRAMS OF STUDY
Moraine Valley truly does offer something for everyone! Check out our different programs to see what's right for you.
Transfer Programs
Moraine Valley offers Associate in Arts (A.A.), Associate in Science (A.S.) and Associate in Fine Arts (A.F.A.) and Associate in Engineering Science (AES) degrees. These degrees generally allow you to transfer to a four-year college or university at the junior level. The A.A. degree includes the full Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI) General Education Core Curriculum, and students earning an A.S. or A.F.A. or A.E.S. may be required to complete any remaining General Education Core Curriculum courses after transferring. Please meet with an Academic Advisor in Building S, room S201 to discuss degree and transfer requirements to keep you on-track for a smooth transfer.
If you are already attending a four-year college or university, you might want to talk with an advisor at your current institution about completing courses at Moraine Valley and transferring them back to your home college. Hundreds of students do it every summer. It's a great way to get ahead or make up classes, as well as save money.
Career Programs
Rather than readying you for transfer to a four-year college or university, Moraine Valley's certificate programs and Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree programs prepare you for employment after Moraine Valley. Some career programs also transfer to some universities. Talk to an academic advisor for more information.
Generally, if you attend college full time you can complete a certificate in one academic year or less, or an Associate in Applied Science degree in two academic years or less. Most programs can be completed on a part-time basis, giving you the chance to fit classes into your busy lifestyle. If you are uncertain which route will work best for you, we can offer tips on planning your course schedule. Some programs have specific requirements for admission and some begin at only certain times of the year, so check early.
For a directory of the career programs offered and requirements information, please consult the college catalog and appropriate Career Program Course Requirement Guide.
Noncredit Courses for Personal Interest or Career Advancement
In addition to credit classes, Moraine Valley offers noncredit courses for individuals who would like to learn specific skills but aren't interested in earning college credit. The noncredit course offerings are listed in each semester's class schedule. It is mailed to all residences within the district prior to the start of each semester, generally in April for summer term classes, in July for fall semester classes, and in December for spring semester classes.
